Hello. In to days video, I will show you how identify a first edition first print of Stephen King’s Just After Sunset.
The first thing we’ll look at is the dust jacket. It should be a holographic dust jacket with orange lettering with the exception of stories which should be printed in white between the title in author. Stephen King should come first then below that you should see Just after Sunset. On the spine of the dust jacket you should see in black lettering “Stephen King Just After Sunset” as well as the Scribner logo. The background will be orange. the back of the dust jacket should be inverse from the front. Orange for background with black lettering. The bar code should be on the bottom right hand corner and should have the following code or ISBN13 of: 978-1-4165-8408-7. ISBN 10 should be: 1-4165-8408-0. The five digit code next to it should read: 52800. The US price should be $28.00 and Canadian, $32.00. The dust jacket code directly above this should be 1108.
The inside flaps should be orange with black lettering. On the front the price will be reprinted on the top right hand corner. There should also be somewhat of a blurb on this flap. On the back flap you should see a photo of Stephen King with a bio of him, some links for the publishers website, and these following credits: Jacket design by Rex Bonomelli, Author photograph by Amy Guip, Printed in the U.S.A, Copyright (c) 2008 Simon & Schuster Inc., Distributed by Simon & Schuster Inc.
One thing you’ll notice about the actual book is that it has black board and is quarter bound in black cloth. You’ll want to check this for a little shaped perforation of some kind. This will usually indicated a book club edition. If not then it is most likely not a book club edition. There are no logos or indentations on the front or back but on the spine, indented in gold is “Stephen King Just After Sunset” with the Scribner logo. The paste downs should be white. The last numbered page is 367. The first pages are the publishers page, then the title page, and the copyright page. This is not all the information you should see on the copyright page but this is what is important in determining a first edition:

Now some book club editions may have all of this, but they will a lot smaller size. It should be 24.1cm X 16cm X 5.1cm or 9 1/5in X 6 3/8in X 1 3/8in. Dedication page should be for Heidi Pitlor. If all of these things aplly then you have one out of roughly 900,000 first editions printed. Its value it between $15-20 as of 4/20/2012.
